All stories have a beginning and an end. Mine isn’t over, and where I’ve chosen to begin may seem strange to some. A defeat and a lesson, perhaps the most important lesson I had to learn, mark the beginning I’ve chosen.

The world went mad. Monsters and magic became real, and billions of us died. Then we fought back. Fought back against our world when it turned against us, fought back against the people who made it worse, fought back against other races who sought to take what was ours, and I always stood at the center.


I was the most powerful human on Earth. For three centuries, I protected my world and my people from every threat we faced. The System gave us an apocalypse, but it didn’t destroy us. We rose from the ashes, learned, grew, and thrived.

My name is Jacob, and my true story begins here, with defeat and my greatest failure.
